About Harris Academy Merton

Harris Academy Merton opened in 2006 as an 11-18 co-educational academy with specialisms in Enterprise and Science for 1,500 students. We have been judged by Ofsted to be Outstanding for the last three inspections, with the latest being in September 2022. We are an oversubscribed school at the heart of the local community.

Our location

We are based in the London Borough of Merton and easily accessible by several bus routes to Balham, Brixton, and Morden. We also have a vast amount of onsite parking.

We are lucky as a London secondary school to have as much space as we do, with the site situated on seven acres of land. We benefit from modern facilities that are maintained to the highest standard, and visitors to the school often comment that it feels like a university campus.  benefits from a large campus with modern facilities.

Academy Ethos

At Harris Academy Merton our vision is simple - 'Achievement is Success’. Our values are Excellence, Resilience, Ambition, and Integrity. We want our students to be fully equipped to take their place in society as well educated, respectful and resilient individuals. We believe every student has the right to the highest standard of education allowing them to go beyond what they believe to be possible.

High expectations form an integral part of our students being successful. We combine the traditional values of strong discipline, good manners, respect, and pride in appearance with contemporary best practice in teaching and technology. With these core values embedded, we develop our students into confident and capable individuals that have a desire to excel academically and personally now and in the future.

Students are rewarded for developing the right behaviours and attitudes, for trying hard and being persistent, for a courteous and considerate manner, for attending regularly and for achieving their personal best. They are taught the value of hard work and determination.

Why work for us?

Professional development

Professional development is an essential part of academy life. We support our staff to move forward confidently by encouraging personal and professional development and maintaining an attentive, empathetic environment. Our staff engage in vast amounts of internal professional development, professional qualifications through the NPQ suite and Masters degrees. Staff are encouraged to seek out CPD opportunities to support their own development.

Most of our Senior and Middle Leadership Team are "homegrown" as we have focused with succession planning and promoting staff that have grown with the academy as a key factor of our success as an Outstanding school.

Other benefits

We have a modern gym facility that is free for all staff to use.

As part of the Harris Federation, you willl have full access to the generous package of Federation benefits.
