Harris Academy Merton have fully moved to teaching online as a result of the national restrictions put in place by the government. Our online learning provision is designed to enable students to continue their education at home.

The protocol set out in this document is a guide to support students and staff with best practise while learning online.

The majority of our protocol refers to live lessons conducted online:

• Teachers will continue lessons only where 2 or more students are present.

• Live online lesson must take place using Harris Academy Merton approved software, which is currently Microsoft Teams. This has been assessed as secure for these purposes.

Staff are expected to:

• Use their school account to access Microsoft Teams

• Ensure they do not share personal information or contact details

• Keep the camera function off

• End meetings to ensure that all students have left or are removed from the meeting once the lesson has ended

Students are expected to:

• Use their school account to access Microsoft Teams

• Fully participate in lessons, completing all the work set

• Join the lesson with the camera off

• Only turn their microphone on when the teacher invites them to do so

• Use the ‘raise your hand’ feature if they would like to ask a question or contribute to the lesson

• At the end of the lesson, leave when requested to

Recording of lessons:

Lessons must not be video, or audio recorded by students. Students will be told that the lesson is being recorded. Recordings of live lessons will be uploaded by the teacher for future reference or for students who missed the lesson. Student attendance and engagement will be noted. Conduct expectations for staff and students during live online lessons remain the same as in a physical classroom. Teaching staff will follow the principles set out in the staff code of conduct. Students are expected to model behaviour outlined in the school’s Behaviour Policy and to follow any specific instructions given by the teacher during the online lesson. Students will be removed from the lesson if they do not meet these expectations.

Safeguarding:

It is important that all staff who interact with students, including online, continue to look out for signs that a child may be at risk. Any such concerns will be dealt with as per the Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy and where appropriate referrals will be made to the DSL.

Privacy/GDPR:

Harris Academy Merton will ensure any use of online learning tools and systems is in line with privacy and data protection/GDPR requirements.
