Uniform Information

The uniform for the Academy includes a blazer, shirt and tie for all students. Girls may wear trousers or skirts.

Financial assistance with uniform purchase will be provided to those parents on income support. Further information will be made available to successful applicants. For further details of the uniform grant, please click on the link below:

School Uniform Policy

By requiring students to wear the Academy uniform, we intended to develop a sense of loyalty to the community of which they are members, and to  encourage students to take a pride in their appearance. Students are expected to wear full uniform on the way to and from the Academy.

If students are not in full uniform they will not be able to attend lessons. They will undertake supervised work until the correct uniform is brought to them or they will be sent home to change with parental agreement. All items of uniform should be clearly marked or labeled.

Trousers
(Boys and girls) Black, classic style, full length
 No jeans, washed grey, navy blue, corduroy, jean like material, high fashion trousers/leggings or shorts.  Trousers should be worn with a secure fit around the waist. Belts should be demure and functional, no oversized buckles or clasps, studs or trimmings and not worn as a fashion accessory. Any retailer

Skirt
(Girls only) Black, classic style, knee or calf length Skirts should be made from traditional skirt material and not tight fitting. Slits should be minimal in length and functional, no side slits permitted. Any retailer

Shirt Plain white traditional school shirt The shirt should be tucked in and closed/buttoned/fastened at the neck.  Any
polo-neck, T-shirt, vest or underwear worn underneath should not show or be visible through the shirt.  No designer shirts or girls fitted blouses. Any retailer

Tie Faculty colour Must be kept in good condition with colour visible in the stripes and worn with a closed knot covering the shirt collar button at the neck.
Tie should be of appropriate length with wide end level with the navel. Maybury Sports

Socks Black or white Must be plain, no pattern designs and worn below the knee. Any retailer

Tights
(Girls only) Plain natural or black No footless, patterned or fishnet tights, leggings or legwarmers.
Not to be worn with socks, leggings or legwarmers. Any retailer

Shoes Black, traditional style, black sole and heel A plain design, no trimmings, logos, decorative buckles, coloured laces or stitching, labels or other decorations.  No shoe/trainer cross footwear e.g. Prada.  No trainers or fabric shoes, ankle boots or knee-length boots.   Any retailer

Coat/Jacket Plain black
Academy outdoor jacket available Plain black, no logo.
Cardigans, jumpers, sweatshirts, tracksuit tops, waistcoats, hooded tops, denim jackets etc. are not to be worn as coats. Harris Academy Merton

Hair/Appearance Individual fashion statements such as extreme hair styles or colours are not permitted.
Only black or white hair decorations are permitted. 
No decorative attachments to braids or extensions are to be worn in the hair.
Tram lines or other shaved shapes in the hair and ‘bar codes’ in eyebrows are not permitted.
Tinted or cosmetic contact lenses and decorative dental wear are not permitted.
No hoods, hats, caps or bandannas to be worn anywhere on the Academy site.
