Remembrance Day 2016

Again, this year the Academy had the honour of attending the Remembrance Day ceremony held at the War Memorial in Mitcham town centre.  There was just one other secondary school invited to take part and ten primaries.  The local Royal British Legion attended with their flags and a trumpeter who played the Last Post.  Other guests included the Deputy Mayor, Council officials, local emergency service representatives and people from the local community.  The service was led by the Reverend Nigel Stone of St Mark’s Church.

Ahmed Abdirahman, Head Boy, had the honour of reading part of the Remembrance poem and along with Head Girl, Leia Fuller, laid a wreath of poppies on behalf of the Academy.

This has been the 3rd year that the Academy has been invited to the Remembrance Day ceremony and we hope it shows the local community that the younger generation are aware of the sacrifices made during wartime.
