Autumn 2 Highlights
Harris Academy Merton is committed to the holistic development of our students, and we are excited to share some of the highlights from our Personal Development programme in Autumn 2.
Mini Duke of Edinburgh Year 9
Students learned skills focusing on the expedition section of The Duke of Edinburgh. Students included their vast knowledge of Geography to apply real-life contexts of sustainability, navigation and life skills such as cooking.

Science Club
Students took part in weekly club competitions after using the engineering design process to develop and test their STEM creations.

Power and Politics
Students developed their knowledge about the workings of politics including the role of Government, the UK voting system and how laws are passed.
Their end project involved creating their own political parties and presenting their manifestos!

Green Schools Project
Students were taken on a journey to become changemakers!
They explored case studies such as the Solomon Islands in Oceania and Fairbourne in Wales to understand the real-world impacts of climate change. They then wrote inspiring speeches encouraging one another to adopt more eco‑friendly habits in their everyday lives.

Fashion Design and Illustration
Over the six weeks, students took part in the Fashion Design and Illustration Club, where they explored the world of high fashion through the lens of six iconic brands: Louis Vuitton, Tom Ford, Dior, Alexander McQueen, Chanel, and Burberry.
Each session focused on the history, signature styles, and cultural impact of these fashion houses, particularly their influence on pop culture and celebrity fashion.
Students carried out research and took part in discussions to deepen their understanding of each brand’s unique identity. They created mood boards featuring key elements such as colour palettes, fabrics, silhouettes, and iconic pieces, before designing and illustrating their own fashion looks inspired by the brands studied.
