First Aid Skills Development in PE Lessons
Students in Years 7–10 have been leraning essential first aid skills in their PE lessons as part of the Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) curriculum.
Learning Essential Skills
Gaining confidence in responding safely and effectively in emergency situations, pupils have learned how to call 999 using the LIONEL method, giving clear details about:
- Location
- Incident
- Other services required
- Number of casualties
- Extent of injuries
- Repeating location
Students also practised completing a primary survey using DRABC, checking for:
- Danger
- Response
- Airways
- Breathing
- Knowing when CPR is needed

Practical Skills and Realistic Scenarios
Using first aid manikins, students demonstrated strong technique and growing confidence in responding to a range of realistic first aid scenarios.
- Placing someone in the recovery position
- Finding and using defibrillators
This learning aims to ensure all students feel comfortable seeking help, confident supporting friends or family in an emergency, and empowered with practical skills that could make a real difference when it matters most.
