Science Highlights 2025-2026
This year, students enjoyed a range of exciting opportunities to explore science beyond the classroom, developing their curiosity, practical skills, and scientific understanding.
British Science Week
To celebrate the theme “Curiosity” students explored fascinating scientific questions and took part in practical investigations, including pollination experiments and reaction-rate challenges. These activities encouraged students to think critically and develop a deeper appreciation for science.

Model United Nations
Six Year 9 students represented Harris Academy Merton at the Harris South Quadrant Model UN Day, debating the issue of Global Vaccine Inequality. Their research, negotiation, and teamwork skills were outstanding, with one student receiving the Best Delegate Award.

Year 7 Science Museum Trip
Year 7 students visited the Science Museum in London, where they explored interactive exhibits and enjoyed the Wonderlab experience. Highlights included investigations into light, friction, and chemistry, as well as exciting liquid nitrogen demonstrations.

Year 8 Beulah Hill Ecological Area Trip
Students gained hands-on experience of ecology through fieldwork activities such as pond dipping, sampling, and soil testing. They investigated how environmental factors influence vegetation and recorded their findings through nature journaling.

Year 9 Hunterian Museum Trip
Year 9 students visited the Hunterian Museum to enhance their understanding of Biology and inspire interest in Separate Sciences at GCSE. Exploring real biological and anatomical specimens helped students connect classroom learning with scientific research and discovery.
