Personal Development at Harris Academy Merton
Personal development Enrichment curriculum runs on Monday and Tuesday afternoons for Key Stage 3.
Our Personal Development Programme offers a dynamic and enriching experience for all students, designed to build character, prepare for next education steps, and explore careers. Each half term, students rotate through a variety of engaging activities drawn from subjects such as science, dance, computer science, media, humanities, art/design, and careers education. This diverse curriculum ensures that students develop a broad skill set while deepening their understanding of themselves and the world around them.
The programme is structured around three core goals:
- Character Values – building ambition, resilience, integrity and excellence
- Next Steps – preparing for future education choices and employment
- Careers – exploring opportunities and developing employability skills
Each year group focuses on a specific theme to guide their learning objectives:
- Year 7: Ambition – Students are encouraged to step out of their comfort zones, strive for success, and demonstrate passion and determination. They learn new skills and set higher standards for themselves while overcoming challenges with confidence.
- Year 8: Resilience – The focus is on perseverance, adaptability, and teamwork. Students develop a solutions-focused mindset and learn to navigate setbacks with determination and flexibility.
- Year 9: Excellence – Pupils embrace lifelong learning, take pride in their work, and reflect on their strengths and areas for growth. They commit to goals and seek deeper understanding across all areas of study.
This programme not only supports academic progress but also nurtures personal growth, helping students become confident, respectful, and future-ready individuals.
